Chinese New Year House Visit

Some foreign students were invited to Shu Hui house during Chinese New Year. The purpose of the gathering was to introduce the local Chinese celebration culture to foreign students. Invited international students were Rofina, Susanti, Ariunsetseg a.k.a Aini, Marisa and Kawtar. Unfortunately, Marisa and Kawtar were unable to join us on that night. Besides, Richie, Yap and Yee Hui a.k.a Bobo are also invited to the gathering. I apologize for not inviting all of you to come. Since I did not have many helpers, I were not unable to serve too many guests. On that night, we served local Chinese dishes to savor and the must-have Chinese New Year cookies as well.

Date: 7th Feb 09 (Saturday)
Time: 7.30pm
Venue: Bachang Baru Residential Area, Shu Hui house

We would like to share some moments during that night.
Here are the shots:

The invited guests..
(from left) Richie, Susanti, Bobo, Yap, Aini and Rofina.

Let's see what we served for the dinner..

Ponteh
The local Nyonya style Chicken cooked with potato in soy sauce.

Fried eggs with Chinese Sausage腊肠, carrot and green onions.

Local favorite Chili paste Sambal cooked with anchovies and red onions.

The unforgettable fried delight- Golden Chicken Nugget

Forgot to mention, left of the bottom is white bean curd with minced pork and preserved white carrots. Garnished with chopped chili and green onions.

This is the snap before our guests dine in..

This is after our guests dined....
Hmm.. Not much different. I think it is because my culinary skill is not good.. right?
Left so much.. I am going to save it for my three meals for next day.. =.=

The dessert!! The 'fish' jelly. Nice to see, nice to hold, nice to eat. haha

We served pamelo as well. Maybe we bought from different stall. It tastes a bit sour, sorry guys!
But it should be nice and sweet.

Rofina, Aini and Susanti take a seat in living room..

Richie and Bobo as well...

The Chinese New Year cookies..

Special introduction, Nyonya style pineapple tarts.. Yummy!

The Red Packet (Ang Pau) session was next.. Shu Hui's mom is in the red shirt.

Gong Xi Fa Cai...

The Mandarin Oranges and card was brought by Rofina and Susanti. They are so nice. Thank you very much.
Shu Hui: As the host, I was supposed to give the Mandarin Oranges to guests. Usually I would not eat Mandarin Oranges during New Year. But I did eat this time. It tastes nicer because they were gifts from my dearest friends. ^.^

Last but not least, thank you for coming my house. Special thanks to Richie. I think we had a wonderful and enjoyable night together. Hopefully you guys got to know Malacca's unique food culture and Chinese New Year celebration. Enjoy!!

Malacca Toastmaster Club

Toastmaster International

What is Toastmasters?

From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The nonprofit organization now has nearly 235,000 members in 11,700 clubs in 92 countries, offering a proven – and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.

Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.

There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.

** The next Malacca Toastmasters meeting is on 19 February 2009 (Thursday)-7.30pm , and it is good to go there to have a look on how those speakers are trained. Please leave your comment if you would like to go and experince it, and it is free of charge for the first three meetings.

More information can be found at www.toastmasters.org
